Our Curriculum
The Cambridge International Curriculum
At British International School Cabo Verde (BISCV), we are proud to offer the Cambridge International Curriculum—a globally recognised framework designed to develop confident, adaptable, and internationally minded learners.
Cambridge is the world’s largest provider of international education programmes for pupils aged 3 to 19, used in over 10,000 schools across more than 160 countries. This global reach ensures that pupils are not confined to any single national system, but instead benefit from an education that is portable, flexible, and internationally respected.
As part of Cambridge University Press & Assessment, and the wider University of Cambridge, the curriculum is underpinned by over 160 years of educational expertise, serving nearly two million learners worldwide each year.
At BISCV, this international framework is delivered within a supportive and dynamic environment, ensuring pupils are prepared not only for academic success, but for life in an interconnected world.
Our Cambridge Learning Pathway
Cambridge Early Years (3–5)
→ Cambridge Primary (5–11)
→ Cambridge Lower Secondary (11–14)
→ Cambridge IGCSE (14–16)
→ Cambridge International A Levels (16–18)
A seamless, internationally recognised pathway from early learning through to university preparation.
Cambridge Early Years (Ages 3–5)
In Nursery and Reception, pupils follow the Cambridge Early Years programme—a child-centred and play-based approach that provides a strong foundation for future learning.
The programme focuses on key areas of development, including communication, physical development, and personal, social, and emotional growth. Pupils are encouraged to explore, question, and develop independence at their own pace within a nurturing environment.
Its flexible design makes it particularly well-suited to international and multilingual learners, ensuring a smooth and confident transition into the next stage of their education.
Cambridge Primary (Ages 5–11)
From Year 1 to Year 6, pupils follow the Cambridge Primary programme, which provides a broad and balanced education with a strong emphasis on academic excellence and global awareness.
The curriculum is carefully structured to build knowledge progressively, while encouraging pupils to think critically, solve problems creatively, and engage with new ideas. It supports the development of essential skills across a range of subjects, preparing pupils for future stages of education in any international context.
Teaching, learning, and assessment are closely aligned, enabling our educators to tailor lessons to the needs of each pupil while maintaining consistently high standards.
